Grey, White and Orange Nursery

Description

My husband and I are expecting our first child in December and we wanted to create a transitional grey, white and orange nursery that was both modern yet classic.

Design Inspiration

Our inspiration for the nursery was a blend of modern grey and white colors with a pop of orange. We wanted to add some travel elements so we added an orange canvas with a white map and the Dr. Seuss quote "Oh The Places You'll Go," as well as some Parisian Babar the Elephant Prints.

Decorating Style

Our decorating style can be summed in an ironic phrase of "modern yet classic." We love modern styles because we love calm colors, clean lines and minimalism but we love classic prints and textures as well as timeless furniture pieces.

Favorite Items

Our favorite item is the Babar the Elephant wall prints. We went to Paris for our babymoon and bought the prints at a street vendor by the Seine River. The prints are playful yet worldly and will forever remind us of our babymoon. We hope to bring our son to Paris in a few years.

Our second favorite item was the multi-texture elephant that we found at Pier One Imports. My husband and I were shopping for furniture and stumbled upon the stuffed toy - it was different, well-crafted and fit our nursery perfectly.

Our third favorite item(s) is the basket with rolled blankets. Some of the blankets were crocheted by family and friends and we wanted a place to display them with easy access so we placed the basket by the glider.

Advice

Invest in pieces that will last a long time: convertible crib, glider and ottoman and dresser with changing topper. These pieces will last you a long time so don't skimp on these.

Think (Shop) outside the box: don't be afraid to shop at craft stores, home stores, vintage stores, etc. for your nursery décor. It doesn't need to say nursery décor to be used for the nursery. By shopping at some non-nursery stores, you're able to get more deals as well as achieve a custom nursery unlike any other.
