We did not find out if we were having a boy or a girl and I had the hardest time finding any nurseries I liked. I wanted a room that went with our house and wasn't the cliche yellow or sage gender neutral room.
The aqua chevron rug! This was purchased when I was about 6 weeks pregnant and was the jumping off point for the entire room! I wanted aqua, orange and gray as my main colors so I could "girl it up" with pink later or "boy it up" with navy.
I love clean and simple modern designs with touches of bold colors and/or fabrics.
The rug is from Urban Outfitters, on sale for so cheap! I got the lamps from TJ Max and target. I made the curtains, crib skirt, pillows, basket liners as well as the fabric that lined the back of the bookcase. It was fun! I snagged the spice racks from Ikea back in 2011 before they ran out and spray painted them white. I also got the Hemnes dresser to use as the changing table. I love the size and the fact that I can use it in an adult room later if need be. The white bookcase is the Billy bookcase from Ikea and the crib is from JCPennys. Oh and the glider is Shermag. The paint is Benjamin Moore Gray Horse and is the perfect color great in that room.
I love the rug! I also love the mobile that I added after my daughter was born to "girl it up". The birth annoucement, glass knobs I added to the dresser, fabric sign above the crib as well as the mobile were little things I added after she was born to make the room more girly. So easy!
Stick with your style. You don't need to compromise your style in a nursery. I think our nursery is still fun and has touches of whimsy but still looks like it fits in our house. I didn't want it to look like a daycare or too cheesy.
