Gender Neutral Nursery

Description

I created this gender neutral nursery for my daughter before she was born and knew her gender.

Design Inspiration

I wanted the room to be calm and serene but also fun with lots of animals. The sheep and Kiwi touches were a nod to my husband's home country of New Zealand.

Decorating Style

Rustic farmhouse is my typical style. I like neutrals, wood touches, and soft patterns and fabrics.

Project Details

We DIY'd taupe stripes on the wall using Behr’s Powdered Snow and Perfect Taupe (lightened by 20%).The changing table is a dresser we already had and we painted it with Annie Sloan’s chalk paint in Pure White. The dresser hardware we refinished using Rub-N-Buff (spanish copper mixed with ebony).  We turned an Ikea Ektorp chair into a rocking chair by adding a rocking chair base from Swivel-Chair-Parts. We built out the closet with shelves and used baskets from Target to create a beautifully organized closet with tons of storage. Hanging over the changing table is a musical sheep mobile from Pottery Barn. The adorable elephant laundry hamper is from Home Decorators. The art over the crib is a DIY built from reclaimed barnwood. For those non-New Zealanders, you may not recognize the animal, but it is a kiwi bird, the national symbol of New Zealand. The amazingly soft cream rug came from Lowe’s. The crib sheet and crib skirt are from Oilo.
