Hello Everyone!

Thank you for allowing me to share Ethan's Horse and Hound Nursery with you! My husband David and I are expecting a little boy come July or August of this year. I am a tad design-crazed, so creating the nursery was a dream come true for me. I strive to decorate rooms in a tasteful, yet cozy manner, and the baby room was no exception! We chose to go with a "Horse and Hound" theme. My husband is an outdoors enthusiast, and one of his hobbies is finding quail via horseback with our English Pointer pups. We love our dogs Molly, Huxley, and Bee, and our horse Clyde...so voila, a theme was born!

I approached the nursery like I do most projects... research, reviews, and inspirational photos (cue Pinterest, Instagram, and Project Nursery galleries). I then put together a design board using the Morpholio app on my phone. If you haven't tried making a design board yet, you definitely should give it a shot. While the design evolved as the project progressed, the design board helped me to stay on track with my vision. We opted for a calming, light gray on the walls. I decided to add a little whimsy by painting some metallic gold brush strokes for a feature. It was a risk that I was scared to take, but I am so glad I went for it! I am a big fan of contrast, so I went for a bolder look with the vintage inspired black iron crib and some fun gray and white striped linens.

My advice for those on a budget is to stay vigilant on resale sites and eBay. I found an antique chest on a local resale site for a great price. It was structurally sound, but needed some love, so I found a local business to refinish it. I found my crib bedding new in package off of eBay, which saved me 60% off of retail price. My rocker was also a steal! I found it at my local Pottery Barn Outlet on furniture clearance, and then purchased the slipcover new in package off of eBay as well. It saved me money for a few splurges on the bigger items and pieces that I loved. For those short on storage, I highly recommend using a dresser to double as a changing table, fun baskets for sorting toys, and don't be afraid to maximize your wall space!

My favorite thing about the nursery is the crib wall and his little library. The "Velveteen Rabbit" quote above the crib was the reading we chose at our wedding, and I find the message unbelievably heartfelt. The teddy bear in the crib was baby's first gift, and it came from none other than Daddy himself. The library made me think of my own favorite childhood books. I envision snuggling in the rocker with my baby, and reading a lot to him. Needless to say, now that it is finished, I am even more antsy to meet our little boy. We are going have a lot of fun making precious memories in here!
