Description:
A Dr. Suess inspired nursery featuring a wall-length mural. I utilized a white furniture color scheme with colorful textiles to help brighten the room and incorporated a spirit of creativity with blackboard closet doors.
-
Design Inspiration:
We found a letterpress Dr. Suess print on a recent trip to Seattle which inspired the entire room design.
-
Decorating Style:
I like contemporary pieces with colorful accents.

Project Details:
I painted the room yellow with Martha Stewart paint and the mural was hand-drawn featuring a selection of Dr. Suess characters. I drew the scene in pencil, painted in the color and then added black outlines. The mural took me about 3 months to finish. I painted the closet doors with chalkboard paint and covered the light cords with fabric to match the curtains. I made light cord covers with 4.5" strips of fabric sewn into tubes. The crib, changing table and rocker were passed down to us. The purchased pieces were from Ikea: BARNSLIG RANDIG Curtains, EXPEDIT bookcase, ALMSTED rug, BASISK pendant lights and LEKA baby gym. The crib bedding is from Target's Dwell Studio selection.

Favorite Items:
I think my favorite item is the mural - specifically the balloons from "Oh the Places you Go". I can't wait to share our love of travel with our daughter and I am so excited to meet her!

Advice:
I studied numerous murals to get inspiration. I would advise sketching out the composition first and measuring the wall to make sure the perspective comes out right. I also made a mood board of all the textiles before I bought them to ensure they worked together well.
