DIY Pinterest Inspired Nursery & Shared Guest Room

Description

I wanted to have a room for a baby girl we were expecting but I did not want to give up having a guest room in our 3 bedroom home. So I had to design a nursery shared with a queen sized bed for when we had guests.

Design Inspiration

Having a little boy already, I wasn't quite sure what to do about making a feminine girl nursery. I wanted to make most of the items myself. I used Pinterest for most of my inspiration. If you visit my kids board you can see where I got some of my ideas and how I made them into my own creations! Not a  fan of pink, I loved the peach and corals combined with aqua, yellows and gray!

Decorating Style

Eclectic shabby chic!

Project Details

The crib and the dresser were bought on Craigslist! I sanded and painted them to my liking. I used Martha Stewart adhesive silk screens to make the white and yellow design on the gray dresser.  The crib I spray painted white and brushed a(safe) poly acrylic clear coat. We had a queen size bed in the room with a box spring. But to make the room appear larger we ditched the box spring bought a platform bed frame from Ikea and painted it white. This made the bed lower to the floor, and the space appear much larger. The hanging basket on the wall holding her dolls, was a metal planter basket I bought from Lowes and painted white! My mother in law gave me an old orange swag lamp.  I painted  it white converted to a nice ceiling lamp which works perfect for this space!

Favorite Items

One of my favorite items in the room is the ceiling! The coral and peach chevron zigzags are a big hit with the friends and family too..

Love the walls full of curiosities, including the 3D tree. Your bedding is gorgeous as well.
