When we found out we were expecting a little girl, I knew exactly what I envisioned for the sweet nursery. All things soft, elegant, and feminine. I wanted the room to make you feel at ease the second you walked in. I also wanted sophistication, but with hints of little girl coming through in the details.

Design Inspiration

Being a lover of neutrals, I knew the nursery would follow suit. Robin's Egg Blue has always been my favorite color so when I began scheming up the design it started around that color. I knew I wanted soft colors, gentle textures, and a bit of a vintage feel. While pondering my design, I came across a Dash and Albert floral rug that was blue with a soft pink rose detail on it... This made me love the idea of bringing in the rose color through my accessories. I immediately started making an inspiration board focusing on my color palate of Robin's Egg Blue, Rose Pink, Greige and White.

Decorating Style

I have always been drawn to a soft color palate. The moment you walk into our home you are greeted by bright whites, soft blues, and warm grays. It immediately makes me feel relaxed and refreshed... a feeling I hope all my guests feel when they come over! When decorating I like everything to work together so I look for pieces that are neutral, not too busy, and have a unique texture or oldness about them. I love how I might find the perfect living room piece that compliments a piece you might see elsewhere in the house.

Project Details

Crib: Bratt Decor

Bedding: Matteo--Purchased from The Linen Closet

Chandelier: Super special to me! :) Home Depot Gold Chandelier that was redone by me and my mom. Painted with Annie Sloan Old White chalk paint, and added the pearls. These pearls were strung by my mom a few years ago to be used in the decor at my wedding. Getting to use them again for our sweet little girl is such a special thing.

Side Tables: Redone by me. Purchased cheap black side tables at Hobby Lobby and painted them using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint-- Old White, Paris Gray, and light and dark wax.

Frames: Purchased from various places, and painted and redone by me.

Glider: Pottery Barn slip-covered swivel glider.

Side Table: TJ Maxx

Curtains: RH Baby and Child

Curtain Tie Backs: Again, used the pearl strands from our wedding.

Pull Down Shades: Woven wood shades custom made from Budget Blinds.

Mirrors on Side of Window: Purchased mirrors from Hobby Lobby and redone by me using Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue, Old White, and clear wax. (Don't be afraid to use this chalk paint! So easy! I had never used it before I did these nursery projects).

Rug: RH Baby and Child

Changing Table: Soft Surroundings

Egg Photographs: One Kings Lane

Lamp: Soft Surroundings

Baby Shoes: Etsy-- Harper Daisy Boutique

Wire Baskets: Home Goods

Mercury Glass Vase and Flowers: Kirklands

Tray and Trunk: Hobby Lobby

Lamp: Repurposed from another room in the house because I haven't found another one I like!

Paint Color: Rodeo by Benjamin Moore

Favorite Items

My favorite items would have to be the custom chandelier using the pearls from our wedding, the photograph of my husband and I holding the baby shoes-- this is how we announced our pregnancy, the glider because it is so comfortable, and the bedding! Oh gosh, I'll stop with that, but I really do love everything!!

Start with an inspiration board. It doesn't have to be as fancy as "inspiration board" sounds... Just collect your ideas. Find a few key pieces such as a rug, or bedding and start working from that. Add elements to the board that show colors, themes, or ideas you love and keep it in mind as a guide while shopping. Also, don't be afraid of white bedding... it is machine washable and bleach-able! Most of all create a space that is special to you in some way or another and enjoy every moment making memories in that room with your little one... That's what I plan to do in just a few weeks! :)

There is one frame on the wall next to the windows that seems to be the same color as the RH rug. What paint color is that??

  14. 22

I have the same question as Heidi, where is the blue bird in the frame from? Please respond, this would be perfect in my nursery! :)

  15. 24

Yes the curtains are the RH frayed curtains in petal– the blanket is from Stein Mart, the bamboo shades are from Budget Blinds and I am unsure of the color, the blue mirrors are custom painted by me in Annie Sloan paint. I mixed duck egg blue and white together. The blue bird in the frame came from Hobby Lobby,

Beautiful room! What color is the rug? It looks like it matches the robins egg blue in the picture, but is it the RH Baby & Child Camden Gate rug in silver mist? Thank you!
