Colourful Polkadot Playroom

Description

This playroom was designed for a brother and sister when they were age 2 1/2 years and 6 months respectively.  They are now 5 and 7 and still use and enjoy their playroom everyday!

Design Inspiration

This playroom was inspired by polkadots!  The drapery fabric was the jumping off point.  From there, the orange accent wall was born.  To soften the bright, bold colour, we went with a creamy white colour on all other walls.  The goal was to create a very personalized playroom for my little clients.  We used photographs, custom art and wall decals to achieve this.  We also included a place to display the  the children's art in the room.

Decorating Style

Contemporary with a bit of traditional added in!

Favorite Items

My favourite items include the paper globes hanging from the ceiling. We did that to add some whimsy and to bring the height of the 12 ft ceiling down to make the room feel a bit more cozy and child friendly. I also love the orange accent wall and the wall decals.  The size of the room required big, bold wall treatments.

Advice

Use Ikea!  We sourced so much from Ikea!  That really kept the costs down.  This whole playroom was done for under $5000.  We did have a family member sew the drapery, so that really helped the budget.

Use repetition to create a cohesive space.  In this room we repeated both the use of circles/dots and the colours orange, green, aqua and white.

Hi,

Love the playroom! Where did you get the desk and adjoining shelving unit with drawers? If IKEA, do you remember what it was called?

Thank you!

Hi Kylie: I do not have information on the colour anymore! But it was a Benjamin Moore colour. I wish I could be more helpful. Sorry. Robbin
