Camden’s Pink & Gray Nursery

Description

This is our daughter, Camden's, nursery. It used to be my stepson and my younger brother's room when they came to visit -- two twin beds, a large TV, Playstation 3, with blue and yellow fabrics and wall coverings, even snowboard and dirtbike Fathead wall decals at one point. We originally planned on transforming it into the nursery for our twin daughters, Aubrey & Finley, but due to complications, we lost them at 20 weeks of pregnancy, and had to reassemble the room into the boys' room, storing all the items we had originally purchased for the girls. A few months after we lost the girls, we found out we were pregnant with another little girl. Naturally, we eventually moved the boys' furniture again into another spare bedroom and began this labor of love for our sweet girl, Camden.

Design Inspiration

I saw a nursery on the Restoration Hardware Baby & Kids website -- pink and gray, with touches that were both vintage and classic.

Decorating Style

We wanted to keep our daughter's nursery clean and classic. Not being a fan of big graphics and loud prints, I wanted a room that was soft, feminine, and serene. We wanted clean lines, without being too contemporary, so we picked out furniture that had mostly straight and clean lines and the accent pieces have more whimsical swirls to add character to the room and make it more feminine.

Favorite Items

The "We Dreamed of You" sign was one that really made me gasp and almost brought me to tears when I saw it. That, along with the Prayer Cross, are my favorites in the room. I found this cross randomly after we lost our twin girls, and I bought it immediately in anticipation of the "next" baby. It is absolutely perfect now for Camden and her big sisters / angels.

Advice

I am a firm believer in achieving a "Nordstrom style on a Target budget" -- my husband and I did research on where to get the best prices on items, and we even got some items from Craigslist, and in the end achieved a look that could have cost us thousands more, for a fraction of the price. Definitely keep two things in mind: (1) Make it a labor of love. The love you put into putting the room together will show once the room is done and (2) Plan ahead and give yourself a lot of time for research -- both for prices and ideas. I've found that putting things together at the last minute always ends up costing more and you end up settling for pieces that you really didn't want. Planning ahead and slowly building your room {or any project, for that matter} will give you the ability to find choice pieces and accents that really give the look you want.

Very pretty nursery. Love the monogram, the "We Dreamed of You" sign, and that charming crucifix or prayer cross with three angels.
