Boy’s Modern + Vintage Room

Description

We wanted a colorful, whimsical space with both modern and vintage pieces, clean lines as well as handmade elements. We painted the walls a dark navy blue to make the colors pop and to set off the warm rustic elements. In order for the design to last we refrained from making the room too "babyish". We love the juxtaposition of the modern elements against the rustic and vintage pieces.

Design Inspiration

The original inspiration was "Where The Wild Things Are" which inspired elements like the "twig" end table, woven shades and whimsical felt trees. We wanted those rustic touches in an updated, modern setting.

Decorating Style

Eclectic, collected and fun.

Project Details

Wall shelves, bookshelf + shelf lights are from Ikea. 3-barrel storage unit was from a supplier of retail stores and was very inexpensive. Rug is from FLOR. Eames rocking chair is from Design Within Reach. Floor lamp and mirror from Pottery Barn. Side table is from Viva Terra. Wall letters were created out of rope and wire from Lowes. We did the beadboard wainscoting and door mouldings with supplies from Lowes and help from friends! Crib and dresser are the Sparrow collection from Oeuf. Zebra head is from Anthropologie. Toy storage unit is the Storagepalooza from Land of Nod. Art canvases are from Urban Outfitters.

Favorite Items

The Eames rocking chair. We splurged on this because we love the design,  it's so versatile, and you can just wipe it clean. I see it making its way into many different rooms in the years to come.
