Baby’s Bright and Inviting Nursery

Description

This used to be our home office and when we found out we were expecting, we knew it would be the perfect space for a nursery!  We started cleaning it out right away and found the most amazing light mint green paint from Valspar, which was the first thing we did.

Design Inspiration

Our inspiration came when we found out we were having a girl!  We knew we didn't want the traditional pink, pink, pink.  We decided on bright colors and vintage pieces we love provided inspiration!

Decorating Style

Our decorating style includes traditional, casual,  cottage, eclectic, shabby chic, maybe even a little country, and anything DIY.  We like a lot of different styles :)

Project Details

We started with painting the room, a very light mint green color (Valspar Summer Eclipse).  We took an old vintage style dresser, added legs, and paint (Valspar Seafarer) which someone pointed out later is very close to Tiffany Blue.  We loved this color so much, I accented it on an old antique frame we got at an antique shop and a new frame from HomeGoods.  The various frames on the walls also came from HomeGoods and Christmas Tree Shops.  I filled them with cardstock from Joann Fabrics and created a poster made from cards received at our baby shower as well as ribbons which held together my diaper cakes.  I painted some old small shelves we had lying around a very vibrant purple color and they display brightly colored toys and stuffed animals.  My mother in law made the curtain from a fun print we found at Joann Fabrics and we accented it with a valance from Christmas Tree Shops (which costed about a dollar!)  We were really excited to use my vintage Sesame Street lamp in the room, which is about 30 years old now.  It has a lot of sentimental value and really adds a special touch to the nursery.

Favorite Items

My husband's grandmother and aunt created a gorgeous handmade quilt for our daughter, which we hung on display over her crib rail.  We have our own quilt which was a wedding gift from them and it is so special to have this quilt for our daughter as well.

Advice

Look around at items you are not using for something that can be re purposed or refinished!  We saved tons on using furniture and accents that would have sat useless otherwise.

Colorful, light and bright. I'm sure baby will love this.

Love the lightness and the colors of your nursery. My favorite though is the Sesame Street lamp!
