Baby Sawyer’s Owl Nursery

Description

This room was once our spare bedroom that had beige carpet and beige walls. After trying for baby #1 since August of 2010, we found out we were finally pregnant this year near the end of February. I was so excited that I immediately put all our spare bedroom furniture up for sale on Craigslist. After clearing out the room, we took the money from the furniture and spent it on new baby furniture :)

Design Inspiration

We found out it was a boy in June 2011 and I decided with inspiration from Project Nursery that I wanted to go with a modern owl theme. My dear husband was a great sport as I shared my ideas with him. I had him pretty busy from there on with tearing up the carpet, laying hardwoods, and painting grey walls!

Decorating Style

The style we went with was a more modern style with hints of little boy. I wanted something that didn't scream baby, and something that could stick around until he got a little bit older. I didn't care much for any of the bedding that was sold at your basic baby store. The only bedding sets I liked were from high end boutiques and cost upwards of $600. Frankly that just wasn't in my budget. Etsy was my best friend on this project and a few simple DIY projects were done as well.

Project Details

My favorite DIY tip was that I found a shower curtain off of DwellStudio.com and purchased it for around $60. I cut it into two parts and with a little hemming turned the top portion into a curtain valance. The remaing fabric on the the bottom I simply tucked under the mattress of the crib and it easily became the crib skirt. Now I don't sew, though I wish I knew how so  I just took what I turned into a valance to my local dry cleaners and had them hem the bottom of the curtain. Other objects used in this nursery: BUMPER: Etsy Shop (Katie Bug Creativity) SNIPS AND SNAILS PRINT: Etsy Shop (TrendyPeas) TREE DECALS: Etsy Shop (NouWall) I actually just purchased one tree decal and taped it to the wall where I wanted it, traced with pencil, and painted white :) POMS: Etsy Shop (ihaveribbon) CRIB SHEET: Etsy Shop (sweetbobbins) SKIRT/VALANCE: See above for project details (dwellstudio.com) GREEN BIRDS: Lake Chelan Winery- Chelan, Wa WHITE BIRDS/GREY OWL PILLOW: Pier One Imports KNITTED OWL HAT: Beanies by Kassie http://facebook.com/kassie.adams2 GREEN OTTOMAN STORAGE CUBE: Target.com

Favorite Items

I love the Snips and Snails print (Snips Snails and Puppy Dog Tails, that's what little boys are made of), I also have a lot of handmade things in the room that were decorations from my baby shower. Storage was important to me because I wanted to be able to hide things. I found my crib (storkcraft) with a storage drawer in the bottom of it, the ottoman storage cube, the diaper changing table (3 drawers and 3 shelves in the cabinet), storage bins galore in the closet, and a 6 drawer dresser purchased from walmart.com. I also love the fabrics that I was able to find for the crib bedding :)

Advice

Start early. If you slowly pick things up here and there it will help make things a little easier on the pocket book. If purchasing homeade bedding, buy early. It took over a month to get my bumper and I was so excited to get it that it seemed like forever. Friends and family were asking me to post photos on my facebook, but I didn't want to take photos until everything was complete. Good Luck, and have fun! Nursery Photos by A. What crib is this? I love it! You said stork craft but I don't see it on the website? Do you remember the model name? Thanks! Great room and great tips about the shower curtain :)

Search "Chevron Bumper". Katie Bug Creativity returned about 4,000+ shops and I could never find it either. Lyndsie,
