Description:
We wanted a nursery that was fun for Baby O and us! The style of his nursery reflects our love for bicycles, earth tone colors and modern design.
-
Design Inspiration:
I started with the Pindler and Pindler fabric on the crib bumper and cornices. I loved the earth tone colors in the fabric and really wanted to punch the orange, grey and brown. Then we found the vintage bicycle photograph over the crib that had all of the same colors. This gave us the idea to use some old bike parts in shadow box frames and a mirror made out of a bike wheel.
-
Decorating Style:
I like to mix in found items for artwork and accessories with clean lined furniture. I think it gives the room more of an eclectic feel and personalizes the room.
-
Project Details:
I selected the fabrics and had the bedding made by a seamstress because I didn't find anything I loved that was ready made.
We painted the stripes ourself and it was an undertaking but I love the way it turned out! Make sure to add a thin layer of caulk to the edge of the painters tape to get a clean line when you remove the tape.
We spray painted some old bike parts and put them in shadow boxes from West Elm to add another element on the walls. We also made the mirror out of an old bike rim and mountain bike tire.
We wanted to buy nice furniture that would work great in any room in our house and not just his nursery. We love our Sparrow crib by Oeuf, our Grano glider/recliner from Monte Design Group and our dresser form West Elm.
-
Favorite Items:
I think my favorite items in the room are the DIY projects my husband and I created together! He was able to be a part of he design and add his own touches in the room.
-
Advice:
I always think it's easier to start with a piece of fabric, artwork, photograph or just something you love to build off of to create a space that reflects your personality.
