Baby Frank’s New Digs

Description

A black-and-white baby room with sea green and teal.

Design Inspiration

This design was inspired by a two-part collage of old photos I put together of our families. From there, we were pretty limited on space and money, but I wanted to create a place where Mommy could relax as much as baby. As Frank is due in March, I accented the room in sea green (Pisces' signature color).

Decorating Style

Urban, vintage (both faux and real), moody, and fun.

Project Details

The black Jenny Lind crib was a steal for $150 from Walmart. After that, we combed stores like Buy Buy Baby for floor models (the rocker was one) and tried to repurpose items  from around the apt. as baby items (for instance, the nightlight is an old Christmas decoration my mom made for us). The crib mobile is from Giggle; the blanket is from a local designer called Lil' Misfits; the wallpaper is peel-n-stick paper from Tempaper (we rent our apt. so we wanted to avoid doing anything permanant to the walls); and the hippo and gator are designed by a local Brooklyn artist. The sheets are Boppy. I got the mint solid and basket mint (not shown) and they are part of the HIDEAWAY collection if you want the comforter and bumpers, etc. (I did not bother). The pillow is also Boppy and the cover is PARK HILL.

Favorite Items

The photo montages, which I did by scanning copies of old family photos and pasting them together; and the black and white blanket, which is handmade by a girl here in Brooklyn (www.lilmisfits.com).

Advice

If you get out of the baby mindset, you can save money and find inspiration in the strangest places.

I must say that this nursery looks great.  Have Baby Frank arrived yet?  He would surely love this room.  I love how grown-up the room looks with the unique wallpaper you used.  Yet it has some child-oriented details such as that colorful and fun mobile and the stuffed animals and the monkey.  Great work in putting all of these together!

I really love the color combination you've put together - that crib sheet and boppy look like exactly what I'm thinking about. Where did you find both of these items??
