Description

This was an 8 month project! After many frustrations, delays and decisions it is finally done.

Design Inspiration

As soon as we found out that we were having a baby that I wanted to do purple and gray nursery if it was a girl. I used pinterest for SO many ideas and inspirations! I'm a pinterest addict!

Decorating Style

We really DID NOT want a very "babyish" room. No cartoony animals or bedding. We wanted it to be clean and fresh looking with an elegant girly feel. I wanted it to be cute, but not cliche to what a lot of nurseries look like.

Project Details

Baby Cache Windsor Crib and Dresser: Babies R US (Canada only)

Curtains and Bed Skirt: Hand-made by my birth mother

Curtains and Bed Skirt Fabric: Warehouse Fabrics

Shelving: IKEA

Built-in Closet Shelving: Gift from a friend who runs a business in custom cabinetry (The wooden Tailor) Navan, Ontario

Baskets for Closet: The brown wicker ones are from Michaels. The canvas laundry baskets are from Burlington Coat Factory in the US.

Most of the frames are from Michaels or IKEA. The Oval Ornate frame is from IKEA.

Giraffe Artwork: DIY

Elephant Watercolour: Gift from one of my customers

Favorite Items

one of my favourite items is the glider, it was a gift from my mom. It is really comfortable and I could sit in it for hours.

Advice

I'm an artsy person, so I really wanted to put some personal touches into the room. Like the handmade curtains and skirt, the artwork, the custom closet(it was a pinterest idea, but it was handmade by one of my best friends). There is nothing wrong with doing DIY if you are a crafty person. I recommend ikea for shelving and little things like frames, don't buy super highend for a nursery (the baby isnt going to know the difference), however do it the way you want because you spend about as much time in there as the baby will. The room should be comfy for mom, dad and baby.
