Aqua and Red Boyish Charm Nursery

Description

Something special to welcome the newest member of our family, baby Ronan.

Design Inspiration

The aqua and red nursery theme was inspired by a bicycle we found at an antique shop. We thought it would be the perfect starting point for a baby boys nursery. We also used a bit of an aviation theme, with hot air balloons and airplanes. Ronan's nursery also has a beautiful ocean view, so we wanted to bring the ocean feeling indoors.

Decorating Style

Cute and colourful with a hint of boyish charm!

Project Details

The nursery started coming together when we found the white Stokke Sleepi crib. We knew we wanted something that would pop against the aqua and red colour scheme. We also traded in the Stokke mattress for an organic cotton, tea tree infused mattress by tetra. We wanted extra space for toys and storage and cloth diapers, so we opted for the IKEA Hemnes dresser and daybed.

For a bit of DIY fun we hand painted the red chevron rug to pull the look together.

The garland was custom made by Paper Moon Workshop on Etsy. I think the garland played a really important part in bringing in a bit of whimsy and wonder.

Favorite Items

I love so many things about this nursery. It's so functional. I'd have to say it's a tie between the Keekaroo Changer and the reading nook. The Keekaroo is such an awesome change table! The foam padding is so cushy and accidents are not a problem and can be quickly wiped away.

The reading nook is a lovely spot to unwind with our little guy before bed.

Advice

I'd say pick three colors that complement each other and choose various tones from each shade to co-ordinate the look. It's important not to get too match matchy. Add a hint of unexpected to the look as well. We chose a subtle pop of yellow.
