Aloha Baby

Description

This project was so much fun.  This was the result of an E-design I did for a  client who needed help making a special room for her daughter.  Although they live in Hawaii, we weren't going for a tropical nursery.  We wanted something calm, modern with a few featured elements.

Design Inspiration

The inspiration for this room came from the Mr. Perswall world wide map.  This piece introduced most of the color into the space and really provided some major visual interest.

Decorating Style

When designing for a client I like to listen to what they want first.  I can design for almost any style, but I think people are drawn to the way I design because I like to incorporate pieces that don't strictly feel "babyish."  I like to design with pieces from West Elm, Urban Outfitters, CB2 and of course, Etsy.

Project Details

The major pieces for this room can be found at that following online stores:

Low rise crib by Land of Nod

Monarch dresser by Land of Nod

Mr. Perswall world map

Dip-dyed stool

I love you and love you more art

Jonathan Adler bookends

Jonathan Adler menagerie items

Menagerie bookends

The Animal Print Shop prints

Favorite Items

My favorite item has to be the Mr. Perswall world map.  I just love what it did to the space.

Advice

Have fun!  I love a room with character and you can achieve that by not over thinking your purchases.  Not everything has to match.  It just needs to work well together.  What I suggest is if you find a piece that you just love, use that as your inspiration.  Whether it be an art print or a fabric...let it lead you.  But don't over use any one fabric.  I see this all too often.  Let that fabric be a show stopper on one item, not all over the room.  If you need any help or have any additional questions visit my site. www.emersongreydesigns.com

I think that the blurry quality of the photos are not doing your nursery justice. When the photos are like this, it would be hard to appreciate the details of the room design.

Yes, unfortunately I received these photos from my client who did her best to capture her room with the lighting and camera she has. I just appreciate being able to see the finished product and always want to share with others who are looking for inspiration.
