Adventure Time for Aila

Description

I was so excited to have this awesome party theme thrown my way by a great local mom here in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Her daughter was adamant about having a party based on the Adventure Time TV show. Mom was having a hard time finding party supplies to go with the theme so she came to me. I made all the graphics for her and a custom cake/cupcakes/marshmallow pops as well. All in all working on this project was a good time. The kids had a ball at the party playing a cool penguin bowling game that they made out of bottles. An awesome face painter and entertainer was there to show the kids an extra fun time as well.  Great party for a great gal, Happy Birthday Aila!

Design Inspiration

I made the invitation first then went from there. All of the signs, the banner and favor bag folds came together pretty easily after that.  I used the Adventure Time colors and threw in some polka dots to make it a little more girly.

Project Details

I found this tutorial pretty helpful as far as teaching myself the buttercream smoothing technique. They also sell a lot of useful supplies for baking. There is also a recipe for buttercream icing here that is very tasty.

Favorite Items

I especially liked the bag folds for the favor bags.  I also think the Beemo cake came out pretty cute. The birthday girl was thrilled when she saw it.

Advice

I had never done a custom cake before, only cupcakes but I figured why not give it a shot? I made a practice cake first after watching like 30 you tube videos on how to smooth buttercream icing. In the end it totally paid off making the overall process much easier to grasp. The rainbow cake looked so pretty and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I guess my point is you can basically do anything with a little practice so don't sell yourself short.
