Eclectic Hot Pink and Blue Toddler Girls Room

Description

I designed this eclectic room full of hot pink accents and colorful patterns for my daughter Stella after moving her out of her nursery into a 'big girl room' upon the arrival of her baby sister. The room is full of easy and inexpensive DIY projects, including several that showcase some of Stella's own artwork! Find all the details here on my blog Design Improvised!

Design Inspiration

The room was previously our office and I liked the existing pale blue wall color (Glidden's Fountain Mist), although it isn't terribly girly. I was too lazy to repaint the room, so instead I thought of incorporating hot pink accents and the combination of the light blue and hot pink worked out great together! The whimsical Suzy Ultman prints that form the long grouping along the main wall were also a big inspiration for the room's design.

Decorating Style

Eclectic, mixing Craigslist and thrift store finds with big box pieces, lots of pops of color and patterns, and lots of personal DIY touches! Check out my blog Design Improvised to see other examples of my decorating style.

Project Details

SUZY ULTMAN PRINTS The wall of whimsical Suzy Ultman prints were the inspiration for the room. I framed them by spray painting some of my plain black frames hot pink (Rustoleum Gloss Berry Pink) and for the larger frames, I used polka dot wrapping paper to mat them rather than buying expensive custom mats. ROCKING CHAIR AND BEDSIDE LAMP The rocking chair and cute heart side table were both Craigslist finds. I had the chair reupholstered and gave an old lamp a girly facelift by spray painting the base and hot gluing ribbon around the edge of the shade. IKEA MINNEN BED AND VINTAGE FRAMED "STELLA'S ROOM" SIGN The Minnen bed was a Craigslist find. I made a sign for Stella's room by writing on top of one of her scribbles and framing it in a vintage frame that I purchased at a garage sale. ARTWORK BUNTING I love this one-of-a-kind bunting made from Stella's artwork. Such an easy DIY project. DIY BOOK RACK I transformed an old magazine rack into storage for Stella's books with brightly colored papers. DIY DRUM LAMP For the main lighting fixture, I spray painted a brown wicker drum lamp and my sister helped me make an awesome cord cover using scraps of fabric and sewing them into a long tube.

Favorite Items

Right now it is the IKEA Minnen bed I found on Craigslist for $60 for the room. We originally had her in a crib in this room, and but I came across this when searching for a big girl bed and it couldn't have been a more perfect fit! I love that I don't have to deal with less attractive guard rails. It is so cute, and she hasn't fallen out yet. ;)

Hi Katie! Sorry for the delayed response. I actually got the cubbies / storage unit from Craigslist. I think it was originally purchased at Dania Furniture here in Chicago

Thanks so much Megan! I bought the blue pouf at World Market two summers ago - it was meant to be an outdoor poof. It would probably be hard to find now, but they sell a lot of similar fun patterned poufs on Etsy.

Thanks so much Project Nursery / Junior! I'm so glad you liked the room - I definitely had blast creating it for my daughter. Now I'm tackling my next project of a playroom for my two girls. I've got lots of fun ideas I'm toying with... I will be sure to share pics of the playroom when it is done!
