The ultimate children's design resource

Meet Melisa Fluhr

I’m the proud mom of two very active and very big boys. I often get stopped in public only for people to ask, “Is he 2 or 3 years old?” When I tell them that he just turned one, there’s an awkward moment of silence quickly followed by some sort of sports analogy or linebacker comment. I love it, and it cracks me up every time. It’s becoming their lucky mother that gave me the real desire to change careers and turn a passion for interior design into a community of shared ideas and inspiration for children.

My personal decorating style changes constantly, mostly due to the fact that our family has been bouncing between modern New York City living and Hollywood-Glam Los Angeles. My belief in incorporating a stunning chandelier for any and every open-kitchen however remains true. While I am known for embracing bold and wild color combos, I secretly dream of a more subdued Restoration Hardware inspired home on the beach one day.

I enjoy networking over strong coffee, have a passion for Chinese cooking (thanks to my talented mom) and a love for bold Cabernets. My biggest accomplishment in life is successfully finding a way to do it all from home with kids in tow. Creating ProjectNursery.com with my dear and long-time friend Pam is a dream job. It hasn’t been easy, life isn’t always balanced and it’s been a ton of work. But it is pretty awesome putting my head on my pillow each night knowing that a simple vision can turn into a whole lot of possibilities!

Melisa Loves…

1. I’m in love with everything Horchow, including this mirrored chandelier. 2. His signature red soles make me feel fabulous. What more can I say? 3. If I wasn’t designing nurseries, I’d be designing kitchens. My next kitchen will be “Greige”, and you heard it here first. 4. I don’t know why but I am compelled to use chalkboard paint in every one of my homes as seen here in Chase’s nursery. 5. There are so many things I admire about this yellow and gray living room, I don’t know where to begin! 6. I appreciate really unique hostess gifts such as these silver chopsticks. 7. My inner rocker is into leather bracelets, and I’m into Hermes. 8. There’s something to be said about a go-to lipstick since 1998—Mac in “Twig”.
