Julie and AlessiaAs a mom and designer living in New York City, I never cease to be amazed by how many decorative styles coexist in Manhattan alone. As a native of Italy, my own personal aesthetic combines the past and present, blending both ancient and modern elements; it’s part of my DNA. Vibrant colors are an essential part of the Mediterranean culture, so oranges, yellows and blues are the recurring palette of my imagination.

I am inspired by what I see throughout the world, particularly in European cultures, and so I reinterpret it here in New York City—my new and permanent home. I love innovative, modern Italian design, how the British are able to maintain their history and still manage to keep up with current trends, and the way soft, French lines and decor elements add a gentle touch to any room. Here in New York, I see the city as a blank canvas where I can apply all of these creative influences to design something truly unique.

Through My Tiny Nest, I have the opportunity to see a space transform into what parents-to-be dream of. It fills me with pride to watch their initial anxiety turn into unbridled excitement as they see the elements of their upcoming baby’s new home become a reality. We aim to provide parents with a product that reflects both their initial vision and the collaborative creative process with us. It is this collaboration that creates the best results and allows us to build lasting relationships to create room after room as families expand.

Alessia Loves…

Alessia Loves

1. I am a big promoter of colored ceilings. I think they should be used more often—they add character to otherwise anonymous rooms. 2. Cameroon Juju Hats are a useful and versatile decor item. Recently they have become increasingly popular, and I enjoy their innate ability to add texture to any room. 3. My handmade earrings from Spanish artist Miguel Ases—they make any outfit better! 4. Ever since I was a child, I have been passionate about portrait photography. Steve McCurry keeps inspiring me by bringing the essence of his subjects to the surface without failing to capture the surrounding colors. 5. I can’t get enough of fancy and adorned shoes like these Jimmy Choo’s from the Icons Collection. 6. I love the Hipstamatic iPhone App, which allows me to take fun pictures with my family. 7. The unique designs of Madeline Weinrib’s rugs and textiles combine soothing patterns with beautiful vibrant colors. 8. Magnolia Bakery is absolutely my favorite place in all of Manhattan. I can find any excuse to have a red velvet cupcake and get wrapped up in the taste, smell and feel of the place.
