Green Rooms In A Box Or Silver Platter?

Posted in Furniture, Paint, Recycle, Shelves, Toddler Rooms by Little Apple Design LA

I am totally impressed! Rather than hiring a designer, I can now stalk Jennae Petersen of Green Your Decor and I am likely to have my next room design served on a silver platter via the worldwide web. Her inspiration boards are sooo beautiful and she makes it so simple to buy. Best of all, it’s all green decor so you can feel good about some of her splurge item!

Recently, Jennae posted two children’s room within her “Green Rooms in a Box” design series to dream about. Check out her Green Girls Room for under $2500 and her Green Boys Room for under $5000.  We cannot wait to see what she does with a nursery!

Organic Luxury

You’ve used the expression “warm and cozy” to describe a blanket but how about “healthy and elegant”? Two moms’ love of family, environment and fashion have come together to create Robbie Adrian, manufacturer of quality, organic baby blankets.

Mommy-to-be Tamara tipped us off on this hot find that celebrity mommies such as Christina, Katie, and Jessica know so well. Eco-friendly Robbie Adrian blankets are available in flirty silk ruffles or simple piping designs. Offered in plush 100% certified organic cotton velour or soft 100% certified organic cotton fleece, baby sizes start at $44 and they even make adult sizes. An ideal gift for welcoming a new mom or newborn into the world.

Robbie Adrian is also kind enough to extend a 10% discount to Project Nursery Readers. Please mention code “PN “at checkout. Oh and the gift box also happens to be just as pretty!

More than a Mobile: Handmade Hanging Art

Posted in Mobiles, Recycle, Wall Art by admin

I am new to the Etsy thing. I am new to the blogging thing but through some cool design blogs, ie. SF Girl by Bay, I noticed a banner on their sites that say “buy handmade”. So I stumbled upon some really special artists. One of them creates mobiles and oh how I wished I had found her sooner. Meet Heather Frazier and meet her lovely mobile designs at frazier&wing. With your choice of heavy white card stock or recycled magazines, each mobile is handmade and can take up to eight hours to construct.

I personally had a really hard time picking a mobile for above the crib. It’s trivial, I know. But for some reason, I didn’t want one too stuffed, too neon or too matchy, matchy. A lame worry in the grand scheme of things but it was something that ran across my brain. Here’s yet another fresh and contemporary handmade option by Oras.

These mobiles are suspended from an acrylic bar secured to the wall by brackets. Created out of high density foam, you’ll have your pick between a square or oval pattern and plenty of colors to choose from. Art both mommy and baby to appreciate.

Get Inspired: Boldly Colored and Environmentally Sensitive

Last week Oprah put families to the test and asked them give up everything they could live without in an effort to waste less. Yesterday afternoon, New Yorkers celebrated Earth Day in Central Park with music, games and fun for the whole family. So what are you doing to teach your kids to be “Green”? Like me, there’s probably a lot more you could be doing. Besides carrying the stylish Whole Foods “Better Bag” tote to and from the grocery store, I could start to think about those big ticket items, like furniture. What better place to influence your young by starting in their very own room?

And no, the furniture doesn’t have to be made of cardboard as featured in my previous recycling post. Save a tree or save one of these stunning eco-conscience nursery designs in your idea book by Storm Interiors, our featured Project of the Week.

Going green starts young these days and designers are taking notice. Los Angeles based, Storm Interiors cater to the eco-conscience in-crowd by providing top notch design services and custom furniture options. Here are just some of their pieces to satisfy your need for green:

Storm Re-Rugs™: These unique, recycled rugs are made from manufacturer’s un-used carpet remnants, utilizing durable but plush fabrications and designed with special motifs. Custom colors, sizes, and designs available.

The Rock N’ Wave™: Storm’s fully upholstered child and adult friendly rocker inspired from the Pantone rocker. This rocking chair is comfortable and unique. The interior is made from an environmentally friendly synthetic down and frame made from alder wood.

Hide N’ Seek Unit: A Storm Custom large storage unit featuring open shelves detailed with Asian lines with three large pot drawers below for hiding the not-so-pretty items or extra storage. Made from alder wood obtained from green resources certified by the FSC, and utilizing re-purposed vintage hardware.

And don’t forget to check out The Eco-Tottoman™ while your at it. Pricey, it just may be, but after all, it’s good for the environment, (right honey?).

Never Too Early To Begin Recycling

My first reaction was, “Is this for real?” Then I thought to myself, “Ah..Brilliant!” Since moving to Los Angeles, I have been overcome with this incredible need to be more Green. It’s probably a result from dodging all those Toyota Prius’ on the LA freeways or having to drag a ginormous recycling bin up and down a small flight of stairs to the street every Wednesday. Whatever it is, it is now up to me to teach my little one the importance of eco-awareness at an early age. So why not start from the very beginning? This cradle from Kids Gallery is not only portable but recyclable. Made from good old fashion cardboard, there’s no need to worry about plastics here. The “Recyclable Cardboard Cot” sits at the same height of an adult bed, mattress included.

Step it up a notch and get the “Customizable Cardboard Cot” from Album Di Famiglia on wheels. Also delivered flat packed and easy to assemble, make it as stylish as you want while still keeping practical. Find it online at the oh so contemporary and fashion forward children’s boutique, Little Fashion Gallery. I can’t help but mention that they also carry the “Little Marc Jacobs” line!
