We have one corner of the room that is dedicated to homework and crafts. My boys have bunk beds, which maximize floor space and create an open feeling. Using any vertical space can create this type of feeling—take advantage of all vertical spaces a room can provide to stack books, toys and games.

Closets can function as many things: storage for clothes and toys or even a work space—I know a few parents living in NYC that have turned a walk-in closet into a nursery.

If you have two single beds in a room, consider using folding screens or a curtain to create separate areas and a sense of privacy. And lastly, storage baskets and bins help keep a shared room looking clutter free.

Customized from top-to-bottom, we had the pleasure of working with this little cowboy’s parents-to-be to create a perfect space for their new arrival.

One of our favorite parts of this project was having the opportunity to use this beautiful wood paneling behind the gorgeous Chelsea Espresso crib by Bratt Decor. After seeing how beautifully it installed into the room, we’re definitely going to be itching for another opportunity to panel a nursery design project.

Perhaps one of the most inspirational moments of the design process was the moment we first saw this spectacular child’s size saddle, which was used by the mom-to-be during her childhood. After brainstorming several ideas, we settled on the idea of turning it into a one-of-a-kind ottoman.

Another favorite element of ours, is the subtle mural by the talented Bryant Artwork, with whom we’ve worked on several projects, including our celebrity nursery design for Spice Girl Mel B.

Commonly found in 16th Century Italian design known as flame stitch embroidery, Chevron has been a trend with staying power for the past couple years. The new Zig-Zag Pink Rug introduced by Dwell Studio immediately caught my attention, inspiring me to create a new pin board on my Pinterest page. Little did I know, my dear friends at Project Nursery were taking note.

In addition to the Italian-influenced Chevron print, I wanted to keep the design sophisticated and fluid, showcasing a nursery as an extension of your home rather than a theme park, if you know what I mean. Throughout the year, online stationery wonder Minted hosts a panel of judges to select their favorite cards in a Design Challenge. Giggle founder, Ali Wing, named “Baby Makes Three” as her top pick for announcing baby’s birth during her tenure as guest judge.

One thing I can’t decide is how to transport these kids around. Should I go with what I already have—a stroller and a baby carrier? Or opt for a two-seater stroller that allows me to attach my infant car seat?

Okay, I need to be honest. I totally want the Baby Jogger City Select. It seems awesome with all its possible configurations, and I would be able to transport both kids around long after kiddo #2 reaches a weight that starts breaking my back in the baby carrier. I’m just worried about the price tag of the stroller ($499 before necessary add-ons). Originally, I thought about buying it for my first son for this very reason, but I talked myself out of spending the extra money and went with the City Mini since I wasn’t even sure when kiddo #2 would come into the picture. Ahh, hindsight… What did you all do with your two young kids while running around town?

My second issue is sleeping. My two-year-old is still in his crib. We are also in the process of moving later this month. I hate to move him to a new house, yank away his crib AND bring home a new baby all within a couple months. That seems pretty traumatic to me even as an adult. Plus, I have to admit, I love having my son safe and sound in his little crib, and I’m kind of terrified of transitioning him into a big-boy bed.

So should I go with a crib/bassinet combo in the beginning and bring in the big-boy bed a little bit later? Or make the leap to big bed before kiddo #2 arrives so the crib is ready?
