I love to hear other Mommy’s list of must-haves since I am always looking for ways to look better and feel better. I thought I would share with you some of my current obsessions. Whether you are a mommy-to-be or a seasoned veteran, these are definitely a few products to add to your shopping list.

Even though we have had a mild winter, my skin is still so dry and irritated. And when you’re pregnant, as your skin stretches, it makes it feel ten times worse. This winter, I could not live without VaniCream ($11.99). This product was recommended to us when our son was a baby to help with is eczema. It was the only product that was a cure to his irritated skin, and we have used it ever since. It’s is made of a dermatologic formula that is free of common chemical irritants. It’s as thick as can be without being greasy, and you can use it on your entire body and even your face.

Every woman needs a Coobie Bra. Ever since I purchased this a year ago, I haven’t wanted to wear any of my other bras. It has the comfort of a sports bra, with the feminine details and support of a normal bra. It has a seamless design (no hooks or clasps), with removable cups and adjustable straps. It looks just as great under a t-shirt as it does under a blouse. The straps detach in the front, so I think it will also be perfect to wear while breastfeeding.

I wish I could go all day long without needing an energy boost. But, let’s be honest, being a parent is tiring! Instead of caffeine, I go the more natural route with Vitamin C packs by Emergen-C. I like that they give you a little pick-me-up, and you won’t have the crash that you get with sugar or caffeine.

I have to say a big thank you to Laura Mercier for inventing the miracle product Secret Concealer ($22). This product is a dream. It is the only under-eye concealer I have tried that is moisturizing and won’t show fine lines or wrinkles. I also like that it doesn’t give you that “reverse raccoon eye” look in photos that some under-eye concealers can. For all of you moms who may be sleep deprived or just plain tired, this product is worth every single penny.

If I could bring only one item to a deserted island, it would probably be lip balm. I find chapped lips to be extremely annoying, especially this time of year. I am addicted to Eos lip balms ($3.50). The packaging is irresistible, but the product is just as great. I like that you don’t have to “twist” to get it on, and the shape of it makes for easy application. This is also fantastic for kids to use because it’s not messy, and it’s easy for them to apply as well.

What are your favorite “must have” products?

From the day my daughter was born, I haven’t been able to put my camera down. I became obsessed with capturing all of life’s moments, to the point that my family has started to call me the paparazzi. One of the biggest challenges I have is what to do with the photos other than store them on my computer. I was first introduced to Pinhole Press through Johanna’s post: Creating a Photo Book: A Labor of Love. It was love at first sight. I spent hours on their site brainstorming all the fabulous creations I could make. Now Pinhole Press is offering one lucky Project Nursery reader the opportunity to win $100 worth of Pinhole Press goodies!

The first item I ordered for myself was their brag book. It’s the perfect memento to place on my desk or to carry around in my bag to show off photos of my daughter. The book is durable, so it can survive living in my purse. The price point also makes it a great gift option for grandparents and extended family.

I also fell in love with their photo notepad and had to order one with the tagline “From the Desk of Kristin.” There are so many ways to customize the pad—you can choose an icon for the cover, customize your text and select a photo for the inside. The pink heart notepad would be a fabulous valentine’s gift (hint, hint to all the husbands out there).

Pinhole Press’s silver plated frame also makes the perfect “classic gift.” I adore this frame, and the quality is something I expect to see at my mom’s house on the “do not touch shelf.”

An easy way to create an eclectic vibe in your child’s room is to use a suzani-inspired pattern somewhere in the room—with a throw pillow, bedding set, rug or on your window treatments. I personally love the subtle look in the photo below, featured in Traditional Home, of the single suzani throw pillow.

The bedding set in the photo below looks like it could be from Anthropologie and obviously sets the tone for this eclectic room with the pattern play of the duvet.

This sweet room, which is actually less eclectic and more preppy, successfully incorporates suzani pillows into the bed for a hip feminine flair.

Annette Tatum has recently come out with a fabulous suzani-inspired set of bedding with her Medallion bedding set shown below. It comes in blue, orange and purple color waves.

And for the baby, the Dakota Blue crib set below is one of my favorite new suzani-inspired sets from New Arrivals Inc. They actually have four sets featuring the eclectic design pattern.

For more suzani-inspired decor ideas for your kids, visit my latest idea book on Houzz. Do you like suzani for kids?

I believe the saying goes, if you enjoy what you do, you will never work a day in your life. I couldn’t agree more. Every year, we attend different markets to exhibit Caden Lane and show off our newest additions and collections. We get to catch up with our stores, buyers and fellow vendors. It’s a small and wonderful world of baby, and I love and enjoy every minute of it! This past week, we just returned from our crazy whirlwind of January Gift Markets, and as always, I was overwhelmed and in awe to meet some of the most amazing designers and talent behind these wonderful brands.

A newbie to the Atlanta market was Wallflower Art, and the artist Lisa Marie Keys was just as lovely and vibrant as her art. She had her work displayed all over the booth, but my favorite part was that she was actually painting a canvas as the day progressed. It was so amazing to watch her piece the owls together, using different mediums like paint and decoupage—you could see the art evolving minute by minute!

Each of her pieces is embellished with beautiful details, and most of her girlie designs are enhanced with bling (a personal favorite)!

These were two of my favorite pieces—grey and yellow is so popular in nursery design right now, and this would be perfect in a boy or girl nursery!

And, how cute are these funky little robots?

Check out the entire collection from Wallflower Art.

As much as I hated the generic wall-to-wall carpeting in our old apartment, I was definitely grateful for it when my first son was doing his daily regimen of tummy time and especially when he was learning to sit up. Because as all you seasoned moms know, even if you surround your baby with pillows, they always seem to find the one uncovered spot on the floor to bump their head! So now that we’ve moved into our new home with lovely hardwood floors, I’m a little worried about baby boy #2 (due in just a few weeks!).

Luckily, the Oshi Mat came to my rescue.

The idea for the Oshi Mat came about when a mom/the creator began attending baby classes with her child. Moms would throw down blankets on the floor for their infants, but she wanted something that was easier to keep clean and provided more cushion for her baby. In fact, the product’s name, Oshi, is her son’s nickname.

The mat is made of lightweight foam and rolls up and tucks into a carrying case for easy travel. The mat’s shape makes it easy for you to sit comfortably and interact with your baby.

You can even put multiple Oshi Mats together to make a larger play area for older babies on the move.

Whether you use the Oshi Mat for developmental classes, tummy time, mommy and baby bonding time or just as a safe spot to sit is up to you. I’m looking forward to the peace of mind that my little guy will have a comfy spot to sit on our hardwood floors.

A few months ago, a friend told me about Andrew Miller Arts. She had flipped out for Andrew’s custom mosaic collages and thought it would be a perfect match for Project Nursery readers. I took one look at Andrew’s work online and instantly knew I needed to meet the artist and see his work in person. These one-of-a-kind contemporary pieces are just the type of thing we love to discover. Luckily, Andrew was coming to San Francisco a few weeks later to show his work at local baby boutique Sprout. I happily went to check it out and learn more about the mosaic process from the artist himself.

AMA’s mosaic portraits are more than a photograph—they use hundreds of individual memories, moments and milestones. From afar, these contemporary works of art look like a modern version of your favorite photo, but if you look closely, you can see that each square is actually a different photo. You work with Andrew to individually hand pick the photos that will create your personal palette.

I’ll just say these collages, which can be mounted on plexiglass or aluminum or printed on photographic paper and framed, are perfect for the parent looking for a unique picture for their child’s room.

Andrew goes to great lengths to create a personal one-of-a-kind piece of art that will be cherished for years. Contact Andrew for more information and pricing.

I fully admit that I was initially skeptical about the ERGObaby. I owned other baby carriers with my first, and I was tired of hearing my baby-wearing friends rave about their ERGOs. I just didn’t get it until I went on a short walk with my 6-month-old with another carrier. Even though he was only six months, my back was killing me mid-walk. I then gave up on all the carriers I had. With baby number two however, I quickly decided it was time to splurge on a new ERGObaby.

Their demonstration videos are very helpful, and I love the fact that there are so many versatile ways you can wear your ERGObaby. It was only a month in that we were both hooked on ERGObaby. It came in handy on trips, in the grocery store, when managing two kids and simply doing chores around the house. I got to feel close to my baby and enjoy every minute of it with no back pain whatsoever. Both he and I were happy, safe and comfortable. You won’t regret this purchase, I promise.

Purchase today on Opensky and receive a free gift—a pair of ERGObaby organic teething pads (a $20 value).

Everyone is trying to use the Pantone Color of the Year, Tangerine Tango, in their decor this year. A favorite fabric of mine featuring this color with hot pink is the Kazak handprinted fabric by Quadrille. Even Mary Mac Donald used it in her Instant Room feature in House Beautiful June 2010, and entertainer and designer Eddie Ross uses it for tabletop decor in the image above.

You can get a gorgeous Ikat pillow from Oomph for $385 (whew!)

Or another Ikat pillow option from Etsy for $150

But it gets even better than that. You can make your own below with a pretty close copy of the fabric.

Ikat Orange Pink at $45 per yard from Lewis & Sharon Textiles

Still not dirt cheap or an exact copy, but it’s a similar look for less than half the price, so now you can use it in your nursery or daughter’s room. And now Annette Tatum has come out with an Ikat duvet set with a similar vibe. Not as bold, but lovely just the same.

Designing my kids nurseries was such a blissful process. Does the baby like pink and turquoise? Yes. Should I paint a tree on the wall? Of course. Do I want to avoid a theme or licensed character? ABSOLUTELY.

But then comes the day you start daydreaming about new design ideas—about the time that you are ready to move your sweet baby from a crib to a big kid bed. Remember how easy it was designing a room for that newborn? Well, it’s not that easy anymore. You see, in the last few years our little children have formed likes, dislikes and, gasp, opinions! And if you haven’t had to fight with a three-year-old about what to wear or been forced to buy the soup can at the grocery store with the latest and greatest TV characters on it in fear of complete public meltdown…well, just wait a few years. Your day is coming, eventually.

This past year we moved into a new home, and my six-year-old was so excited to get rid of his “baby stuff” and graduate to a big boy room. I’m sure he had dreams of Transformers wallpaper, Spider Man hanging from the ceiling and a train track bordering the walls of his room. But I was not ready for that. I didn’t want the characters everywhere, and at the rate he was changing obsessions, I would be broke with each redesign. So we compromised, and I got creative. And let me tell you, it’s the smartest thing I’ve ever done.

Here’s a picture of Cade’s current room. Can you find the Batman?

Still searching? Well keep looking, because to the adult eye, all we see is an adorable vintage sports boy’s room. But to my son, he sees Batman. You see, I bought him these Batman sheets from Pottery Barn, and yes, I’ll admit it’s not the perfect match to his beautiful duvet and shams, but when we pull back the comforter at bedtime, he squeals with joy at his Batman-themed room. Tricky, very tricky.

So now I get to keep my children’s rooms decorated how I want and still satisfy their latest obsession with character-themed sheets. The perfect design compromise.

Looking for your child’s favorite character? Here are some of the most popular choices—and don’t stress if it doesn’t match perfectly with your decor. Remember, you could have decals all over your wall too.

However, if you’ve ever tried to pull this off in your own nursery, you know how hard it is to find such a selection. Luckily, we came across a fantastic company who offers just that, Poppy Tree Frames.

42 colors are carried in stock—everything from Antique White to Million Dollar Red. Not to mention, they also have a line called “Strata” in which each frame has two layers, so you can mix and match colors and patterns for the top and bottom layers of the frames.

Regal, Circle, and Orchid Frames by Poppy Tree Frames

If a huge variety of shapes and colors isn’t enough for you, how about patterns? Poppy Tree Frames stocks 49 beautiful patterns that can be layered into your frame as well.

The icing on the cake? These frames are made of lightweight MDF and fitted with plexiglass, so they are super safe for a nursery environment, which is always a huge plus in our book. The frames are so beautiful, you’ll want to use them in every room!
