My spring obsession is here, a new fabric collection by Schumacher designed by LULU DK. I have already selected my favorites for some sweet and adorable bedding sets for Bellini. I’d love to know which are your favorites. Do tell!

I love the color palette in the LULU DK collection—brights mixed with pastels in perfect harmony.

I “love” this embroidered “I Love You” fabric. Hint, hint, we’ll be using this as a sheet. Adorable!

There are so many different vibes offered in this collection. The playfulness of the fabric designs is perfect for a nursery or an older child’s abode. I even like some of them for adult interiors.

Well, are you obsessed yet? Stay tuned for some bedding designed with these fabrics, and if you’ve used this collection in your nursery or child’s room, please share some pictures with us.

In honor of Earth Day, we asked Sprout to pick out products that will inspire and remind us that organic products are readily available, stylish and affordable!

Do the words “organic” and “natural” conjure hippy-dippy earth tones, dirt browns and garbage can green in your mind? Luckily, we are no longer stuck with these colorless options when it comes to going organic. Our favorite baby and children’s brands are now providing savvy and stylish, not to mention healthy and organic, options for our little ones. From cribs to bedding and changing tables to gliders, there are now healthy and safe options that will provide a stylish and safe home for years to come.

Most furniture is made with glues and plastics that contain harmful chemicals known to disrupt our immune systems and even cause cancer. At Sprout, we proudly provide organic and natural options for both the aspiring fashionista and the customer on a tight budget.

1. Rakshabella bedding – Handmade 100% organic Egyptian cotton bedding with the sophisticated unisex print is both a design and organic favorite. We especially love this bedding set for the milky blue elephant print or the sweet peachy-rose camel print, not to mention how soft and cozy the cotton is!

2. The Regency Crib by The New Traditionalist – Handmade in Connecticut from solid wood, no-voc paints or glues, not only is this crib a piece of art, acting as the centerpiece of the nursery, it is a crib built to last with its toddler conversion option. We especially love this crib for its sophisticated yet classic detail in the side panels. It’s available in over ten different colors.

3. Sprout Exclusive Glider – When Sprout could not find an all-organic glider, we decided to have one built for us in the US. Our glider is made of organic cotton, solid wood, formaldehyde-free glue and amazingly soft organic linen—a Sprout customer favorite!

4. Universal Changing Tray – If you are working with a small budget, it’s great to take inventory of what transitional pieces of furniture already exist in your home. For example, if you have a dresser, vanity or buffet that would look cute in your nursery, use it and simply add a universal changing tray and organic changing pad. We love the mix-and-match look!

5. Notneutral Rug – Notneutral makes 100% wool rugs free of harmful dyes, plastic coatings or flame-retardants. Choose from the modern links or more traditional print of flowers and birds. Rugs are often sprayed with scotch guard-chemicals and retardants; the healthiest option is 100% wool with no harmful dyes or fabric finishers.

6. Coyuchi bedding – Coyuchi is a great option for organic bedding. Made locally in Northern California, their seersucker crib skirts, embroidered sheets, bumpers and mix-and-match style is perfect if you’re looking for just a sheet, crib skirt, bumper or an entire set.

7. Caravan Crib – The caravan crib by Kalon offers a simple style with a pop of color. Made in the USA with no MDF, we love the turquoise blue for either boy or girl. Mix with corals and yellows as a bright, fresh option.

8. Naturepedic Changing Pad – Naturepedic makes organic changing pads in addition to mattresses. We love these changing pads for their sturdiness and versatility; great for converting an existing dresser into a changing table.

Using a canopy in a nursery or child’s room is a quick and easy way to create a dramatic look in the space. Rich fabrics surrounding a beautifully styled bed gives a more complete, polished and classic look.

Besides loving the color scheme of this room, I love the bed crown with canopy. The vaulted ceilings and high windows give the space such a regal look.

Using a sheer, airy canopy is a whimsical way to frame a crib. This room is a mix of shabby chic and sweet baby; the canopy is used perfectly to add height and interest while staying in the same monotone color palette.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter’s room uses a gorgeous canopy with bold colors to cover the entire bed, making it the focal point of the room.

Although this canopy is simple, it still makes an important statement in the room. This one even looks like it could be an easy DIY with a simple piece of moulding and some fabric (not simple for me but for those of you who are a tad handy).

Have a great canopy in your baby or child’s room? Do share!

Last week, we shared our latest design: A makeover of a little girl’s room for the specific purpose of helping her sleep in her own bed. The makeover, focusing on a few of our favorite sleep tips, was featured on the daytime talk show The Doctors and features items available from Rosenberry Rooms. Today, we’re sharing our top tips for using great design to help a child sleep in his or her own room.

Window treatments: From nurseries to older children’s rooms, we always recommend two types of window treatments—a blackout solution and a light filtering solution. During daytime naps, the light filtering curtains will help control temperature and keep a child from becoming accustomed to sleeping in complete darkness. However, using blackout curtains at night will allow parents to keep consistent hours of sleep, in spite of time changes that allow late evening and/or early morning light in the room.

Sound Control: The sonic environment of a child’s room is very important. We highly recommend a simple white noise machine for all child spaces (we used a great Munchkin version in this project). This will set a consistent baseline, as well as provide a barrier for other noises (or lack of noises) in the rest of the home.

Bedside White Noise Machine

Lighting: All child spaces can benefit from two simple lighting solutions—a dimmer, which allows overhead lights to be lowered in the period before bedtime to “set the mood,” and a small light on a timer. The timer should turn the light off before bedtime and turn it on again when it’s acceptable to get up in the morning. This will set a clear visual signal for a child. If they wake up in the middle of the night or too early in the morning, the status of their light will immediately tell them whether or not they can get up.

Make it Theirs: While a nursery is generally considered a space for the parents to enjoy, there comes a time when a child is ready to have a space of their own. The transition usually occurs in a natural way sometime between two and four years. When your child is ready for a big kid room, be sure to fill it with things they love that are age appropriate. Remember that as they grow up and become more independent, they should have a space that reflects that.

Bins for Special Things & A Beautiful Child-Size Sofa

Calming colors: Although many children thrive in bedrooms of all color palettes, if you have a child who’s having trouble sleeping in their own room, consider a calming palette in light colors. The stimulation of bright colors may be too much for your little one.

A Calming Color Scheme in Shades of Light Pink and Ivory

Beautiful and Cozy Bedding

Floor Plan: Whenever possible, particularly in the case where your child is having difficulty sleeping in their own bed, create a floor plan that accentuates the bed. If the room is focused on play things or study areas, the child can easily associate the space with those activities, rather than the important activity of sleeping through the night.

Scary Factor: Lots of things that seem normal to adults can seem scary to little ones, and those things should be removed or at least discussed. Imagine branches on trees outside of the window, a harmless hat hanging on a wall hook or a shadowy figure emanating from the hallway—the simplest things can look like monsters, especially in the middle of the night.

Our Complete Girl's Bedroom Makeover, Styled for Great Sleep

Try It Out: The single best thing we can suggest is to try out the room for yourself. We recommend that all parents try out their child’s bed and not just to sit on it for a minute or two. Really snuggle up in it. Is the mattress comfortable? Are the sheets soft? How do the pillows feel? How is the temperature? And, don’t forget, how does the bed smell? A great starting point for any comfortable bed is a set of soft organic sheets. Finally, be sure that there are extra blankets and pillows at arm’s reach to account for your child’s temperature or comfort changes in the middle of the night.

Is your child’s room somewhere you would want to sleep? Is it comfy, cozy, secure and wonderful? If so, you’re well on your way to using design to create a great sleep environment for your child!

I know all you mamas out there know about aden + anais’ swaddling blankets. They have become a must-have item for every new baby because of their large size—perfect for really wrapping up your baby in a perfect swaddle—and because of their soft, natural muslin, which creates a breathable cocoon for your little one.

But did you know that they are now offering crib sheets? I love when a brand I know and trust expands their line. It makes it so easy to pick up what you need for your baby without necessarily having to research every option out there. And they wouldn’t be aden + anais without some super cute prints.

aden + anais also recently released a line of security blankets in their signature breathable muslin; they’re edged with a silky satin that older babies and toddlers will love sliding their fingers along while falling asleep. The issie security blanket comes in a number of adorable prints. And what’s better? They come in sets of two, so you’ll always have one on hand. No more worrying about squeezing in a wash between naps or the impending drama that can ensue when baby notices their beloved blankie is missing!

I just love scrolling through the pictures of all the gorgeous nurseries in Project Nursery’s gallery, and I always find myself drooling over the rooms that radiate color and creativity! I’m a sucker for color, especially when you take two colors that might not be considered otherwise and combine them into a beautiful masterpiece. My current favorite color combination? Tangerine and teal (with some fuchsia thrown in for good measure).

This year, Pantone named Tangerine Tango as the color of the year. If you walk into any of your favorite stores these days, you’ll see the color on everything from shoes to nail polish, and home decor is no different! This luscious citrus color is everywhere! The Pantone Color Guide is like the bible of all colors, and if you’ve never put your hands on one, it’s like a brand new box of Crayola Crayons for grownups.

We are gearing up to launch our brand new IKAT Collection for Caden Lane, and apparently, we were right on trend with our color selections! So, here’s a sneak peek at our new girl fabrics and some funky and fun decor pieces that would win nursery of the year in my book.

This Fabric Storage Container adds just the right amount of chevron to coordinate with the bedding. 3. The Mermaid Dream Ring would be adorable as a mobile or wall decor. 4. I love these scalloped bunting flags; several strands would be stunning over the crib or changing table! 5. Caden Lane IKAT fabrics from their new crib and big kid bedding collection 6. This comfy Parlour Chair adds the perfect pop of tangerine. 7. If you’re feeling really creative, a quick coat of paint and some sand paper turns an old dresser into a masterpiece of color.
