Emily Alexander

I'm a new stay at home mom with a passion for home decor and modern calligraphy. Most of my house is blue and white, and my baby's nursery is no different! My handsome husband and I are transplants to the upstate NY area after living in Houston, TX. I love Starbucks iced chai, fall boots, and my family.

Classy Coastal Nursery

Although we live in Upstate New York, my husband is from San Diego and I wanted to pay homage to his hometown and a beloved activity of his: surfing. I didn’t want to go overboard with the theme and be too beachy or nautical, since I want this room to grow with my baby boy. The result was “classy coastal”. There are some beachy elements and some nautical elements. I love to play around with patterns and textures so you can see that throughout this room. The first two things I chose that inspired the whole nursery were the Serena and Lily wallpaper, and the surf car print from Minted. I hope you love looking at these photos even half as much as I loved creating it!

Grace’s Dreamy Nursery

As soon as I found out I was having a baby girl, I began to dream about what her nursery would look like. I knew I wanted the walls to be a bluish grey color because it’s incredibly calming, and what momma wouldn’t want their baby to sleep in a calm nursery? I’m certainly a big girly girl but knew I didn’t want to go overboard with the pink, so I chose a soft pink to accent the bluish grey. The first furniture piece I purchased was the dresser on craigslist. It was originally light yellow, but I painted it pink hombre using Annie Sloan chalk paint and waxed the handles with gold gilding wax. Lastly, I used gold accessories to add a little bit of chic glam to Grace’s room. My piece of advice is make your baby’s nursery an extension of your home decor style. You will spend countless hours in that room feeding your baby, and rocking her to sleep, so why not make it a room you love to be in too? I had so much fun putting this room together, and I’m thrilled to share the results!
