Liam’s Woodland ‘Project Nursery’

INSPIRATION & THEME:
I’ve always wanted the most perfect nursery… almost as much as I wanted a beautiful and healthy baby to brighten up our lives and give us more adventures than we could have ever imagined.  When we found out we were pregnant in June of 2015, I knew exactly what theme I wanted for our nursery.  Well, at the time I had two themes as we weren’t quite sure yet what we were having.  It was either going to be vintage shabby chic for a girl OR rustic woodland forest friends for a boy.  We found out 12 weeks later…. it’s a BOY!  I was so happy we got to make his nursery (which was being used as our really nice sized walk in closet for 5 years) into what I imagined to be just right for our little plaid wearing, upstate camping, wilderness loving little man, Liam.
PROCESS:
So why wait?! I was well into sketching out everything on paper with my sketch book and colored pencils in hand until one day I said…. “I can’t wait anymore”.  And so it began at the end of the summer, early fall, we started undoing our ELFA shelving units, dismantled the elliptical which, let’s face it, held clothes better than the ELFA system, and started to look for paint colors.  I fell in love with one teal color and one grey color and knew I would use both.  From there, it all just fell in to place.  We weren’t expecting Liam until February, but had our baby shower in November due to the holidays and with the cold weather and snow, my husband would be working a lot with his job at the Dept. of Sanitation for NY.  We shopped, and then shopped some more, cleaned our carpet, redid the closet to fit things more efficiently, and with all the beautiful gifts we received (especially the books which was in lieu of guests buying a card at our baby shower), it all fell in to it’s own spot beautifully; even the dog bone mat for our pooch Lucky who is Liam’s protector/older sister.
ADVICE:
It may not be huge, but it’s ours, and it’s perfect for us!  Liam sure does like it as he looks around at all the details I was sure no one would ever notice! There’s elements of vintage/rustic, handmade projects done by myself which I need to post on my ETSY shop, others were purchased from ETSY sellers, and lots of inspiration from PINTEREST.  You can do anything you want, especially if you get started early and do projects here and there while getting ready for your princess or prince to arrive!  I wound up putting the letters up on the library wall and the tree decals on the grey wall when I was 8-9 months pregnant… my husband helped and moved the ladder :-) But I’m a crazy perfectionist and wouldn’t let him do it even if he wanted to.  Recommendation- get it done before 8 months and sit back, relax and enjoy all your hard work that your newborn will call his kingdom!
