Color Me Happy {Emmitt’s 1st Birthday}

Description

Our youngest son's first birthday party!

Design Inspiration

I used our son's nursery decor (all things colorful and bright!) as inspiration for his 1st birthday party, incorporating all of the DIY projects + special touches I used to design his room.

Decorating Style

I love color, love vintage and love the industrial feel.  Our spaces reflect all of the different personalities within our family.  I love to make each room unique to the person that it belongs to.  Huge fan of DIY projects (a combo of thriftiness + a need to keep my hands busy).  There aren't many projects I wouldn't try to attempt myself...at least once.  :) I love how a fresh coat of paint can change the look of a room and how little details make all the difference.   I'm a sucker for monograms and I'd rather surround myself with a little that means a lot than a lot that doesn't mean anything.

Project Details

Sewn Streamers -- Made from tutorial found here  +  Personalized Name Blocks -- Made for E's nursery (tutorial on my blog here)  + Yarn-Wrapped Letter E -- chunky cardboard letter from Hobby Lobby (on the cheap), yarn and tape/hot glue   +   Monthly Onesies -- made using this tutorial   +   Colorful Sock Monkey Collection -- ordered from here  +   Pennant Banners + Cake Topper + Fabric Crowns -- I winged it, though there are plenty of tutorials and Etsy shops that carry these items.  + Fantastic Cake made by this talented gal +  My Pinterest Inspiration Board here

Favorite Items

I loved how the sewn streamers and yarn-wrapped letter "E" turned out.  Super easy and super fun!  I also loved reading through the Time Capsule Cards that our friends and family filled out to our Emmitt.  Each card began with "Always remember..." and ended with "Love________."  Some were serious, some were silly, all were great pieces of advice for our E to read on his 18th birthday.  So special!

Advice

It's all about the details!   If there is a DIY project you've been wanting to tackle but just haven't, this is the perfect time.   A simple search will find you a tutorial on just about any project you can think up.  The best part:  you'll have some precious touches to your little one's birthday party (i.e. personalized name blocks, yarn-wrapped letters, etc.) and when the party's over, you have some great room decor to use for years to come.  Win win!
