A Few of my Favorite Things: Andrika King

The holidays are upon us and to get you in the spirit, we thought we’d share a little shopping inspiration from your friends at Project Nursery. Our team has rounded up the FIVE items they love, cherish, gift or simply can’t live without.

I was so excited when Pam and Melisa asked us to write a post about our 5 favorite things.  I like nothing more than to share ideas and finds with friends. Just another reason why I love blogging. The following items are not only my favorites for this holiday season, but I have owned or currently use all of them so this is truly from my heart and home. Happy Holiday to all!

# 1. Wooden Toys. With a 22 month old son, I’m trying my best to purchase only wooden toys for him and for his friends this holiday season.  First off they are non-toxic and safer, second they look a lot better scattered around my house than a bunch of sharp plastic toys.  I really like this wooden shopping cart by Plan Toys available at Bloume Baby.  The cart handle height can be adjusted so that it grows with your child plus the colors are subtle and modern.  I’m planning on purchasing one of these for my niece and filling it with wooden play food and then wrapping it in cellophane.

# 2. Animal Lights. These bear and giraffe animal lights from B. Braithwaite are absolutely adorable and affordable.   Any child would love to have one of these on their bedside table as a night reading light.

#3. A Cozy Blanket. I have this House Inc Faux Fur blanket for my son (in the smaller size) and one for me (in the larger size).  We call it big brown and it is one of the best blankets out there.  Silky on one side and fluffy on the other.  Our blankets are two years old, have been washed hundreds of times and still look and feel the same.  A wonderful splurge for you or your little one and a necessity for cozying up on the couch or in front of the fire place.

#4. Ceramic Memo Board. Now something for mom…this ceramic memo board is a stylish and practical idea. Instead of having post-it notes all over my desk, I just use this and erase tasks as I get them completed.  Priced at $15 it also makes a great stocking stuffer.

#5. Wine with a Message. Looking for a great tasting bottle of wine to give as a holiday or hostess gift that will make its recipient smile?  These Modern House Wines from the ever-chic Swanson Vineyards is your answer.  You can purchase the Bordeaux-style blends by the bottle or as a whole case. If you want the “in” on what is hip in Napa visit the owner Alexis’s Blog.

I love wooden toys too, for the same reasons you have. What's more they are more durable and they exude a certain kind of charm too!

thanks for that Andrika. I'm thinking that any whiteboard marker would do too... but just wanted to be sure!

Oh not sure about the marker...mine has not run out yet. I'm assuming any whiteboard one should do.

You and I think alike! I bought a pink/natural wood shopping cart for a little family member...filled it with food and wrapped it in cellaphane with a huge pink bow on the top! I'm a huge fan of wooden toys too!

I love your selections!!! But my favorite has to be the ceramic memo board, my desk is simply too cluttered with sticky notes of every color! What happens if the markers run out, do you have to order replacement markers or will any whiteboard marker do?
