Nursery Culture: Bedding

At Little Crown Interiors, we’re constantly saying that “a child’s room is more than just great bedding and accessories”, but let’s be honest – great bedding is a big part of creating a beautiful room.  The choice of bedding often shapes the rest of a nursery design, and it’s one of the hardest choices to make.

So, here are some of our favorite tips, to help you make the right choice (and remember that these tips extend to children’s bedding too!)

First and foremost, consider your practical side.  Are you a person who scrubs, scours, and “spring-cleans” regularly?  If so, then please – we implore you – don’t make impractical choices like silk fabrics and heavy embroidery.  Choose easily cleaned cottons, and purchase at least 3 crib sheets. These fun options are from John Robshaw and Aunt Bucky.

Alternatively, if you don’t clean your home with a magnifying glass, then you’ll probably be perfectly happy with fabrics that cannot be washed regularly, as long as the sheets are a durable, washable cotton.  Bella Notte Linens has beautiful choices, as does the ever-chic Serena and Lily baby collection.

Second, imagine looking at your choice every day for at least 2 years.  Even though you may love bedding with hot pink surfer girls on it, be sure it’s what you want to see every day.  When in doubt, we recommend choosing something you’re completely sure about, and then adding easily-replaced/ non-sentimental accessories to liven things up.  Consider a colorful stuffed animal like the adorable one below from  Bla Bla Kids.

Finally, don’t be afraid of custom.  Everyday there are more and more great retail options available, and we always suggest checking those first. However, if you don’t find what you like, consider customizing the design – Javis Davis is a great resource…

For a truly one-of-a-kind creation, customize the fabric.  Spoonflower.com has high quality fabric options and the printing is perfection.  Their website is easy to use, and we have had great success with their product.  Here are some of the fun fabrics the creative users of Spoonflower.com have created.

Hi ladies - thanks for the Javis Davis love! So nice to be included in your round-up of so many other cool companies. We especially love the Bla Bla dolls. Soft and cute! And FYI - all of our bedding can be purchased as sets OR separates... no bumpers needed!
