Project Nursery came to fruition about the same time Jackie was launching the Tiny Decor Blog, an eco-conscience, happy place of all around great kid finds! Soon after, Jackie launched the Tiny Decor store filled with contemporary, original, children’s decor designed by Jackie herself. So the other day when a tutorial on wall art she featured above her son’s crib caught our eye, we said,” Jackie! We have to see your fabulous nursery”. Funny enough, she never thought to showcase her own nursery on her blog. Project Nursery is thrilled to have first dibs!
Child’s name: Pepito
Age: 21 months

What was your inspiration for the room?
My son’s room on the top story of our townhome has always felt like a tree house hideaway to me with lots of natural light and a tree right out the windows. Soon after he was born I launched Tiny Décor. His still undecorated nursery quickly became the prototype nursery for Tiny Décor. We had already painted the room a vibrant royal blue and the Enchanted Forest Curtain Panels were a perfect match. The rest of the room was built off the woodland theme to enhance the treehouse feel of the room.
What best describes your decorating style?
Modern, eclectic. My husband leans more to the modern minimalist side, hence the all white modern furniture. I tend to be a little more eclectic and my tastes show up more in the soft furnishings by mixing and matching pattern and color.
Please share with us choice of paint colors, furniture, art, diy tips, etc.
We painted the room royal blue to easily cover a denim blue that was in the former guest room. We love the deep, vibrant hue against the bright white trim and furniture. We were able to get away with such a dark color because this room gets a ton of natural light throughout the day. We purchased furniture that could grow with our son. The crib converts to a toddler bed. The small desk has a pullout keyboard tray for when he is old enough for a computer. The dresser is a generous size to take him through teen years. The furniture is from Moda Collection all purchased at 30-50% off at the Room and Board Outlet in Minneapolis. It took several months to get all the pieces. Early in my pregnancy when I was to ill to go with him, my husband would faithfully go to the outlet every Saturday looking for the crib. One day it was there, but he had to fend off two pregnant women to get to it. I am sure they did not like him very much, but little did they know he had a pregnant wife at home. The rocker was purchased for 50% off during one of Nurseryworks sales from our favorite Minneapolis baby boutique, Pacifier. I created most of the art and wall decor myself. We use the Enchanted Forest Growth Chart to record my son’s height on his birth date each month. I created the art above the crib with a set of Jenn Ski alphabet cards I found for $6 at Michaels. See the Alphabet Card Art Display tutorial on Tiny Décor Blog. I embellished the photo mats above the desk with a birch tree, owl, and bird motif. My favorite art project in the room was the paper bunting featuring my son’s nickname, Pepito.
What is your favorite item(s) in the room?
This is a tough one. It is hard to choose a favorite when I made most everything in the room. I really love the Enchanted Forest collection and the Jenn Ski animal art that my mom helped me make. My son’s favorite thing would be the animal art. He wakes up from every nap naming off his favorite animals (currently sheep, fishy, and dog).
Is there anything else you would like to share?
Pepito loves his nursery. It is his favorite place to play. Against all traditional design advice we kept all the furniture up against the walls to give him maximum floor space to play. In a small townhome it was important to us that his room become integral with the family living spaces. His room is truly enchanting and we all love to spend time in there as a family.
